1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
(Colossians 3:1-4 ESV)
Sometimes we wonder, if we are seen.
Issues in relationships often turn around this issue: Can you see me? Can you understand me?
Being hidden in such a situation often means isolation.
The same is true for the workplace, the media, etc…:
People stop at nothing to be seen.
The proposal of Paul here is more than countercultural. It is literally out of this world.
Instead to strive for recognition, position and influence, we treasure being hidden with Christ in God.
We get buried with Christ.
By faith we see that we are not hidden from God, but in Him
And we know that deep down in the ground, out of a piece of carbon, He can create a diamond.
And we rise with Him again.
Peter puts it this way:
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,
(1 Peter 5:6 ESV)
I pray you have the courage this week to trust that He sees you.
To not fight for recognition, because He fights for you.
Simon
